We are excited to share the success of Boundaries & Beyond’s participation in the Inclusive Leadership Summit, held on September 12 in Salem. This event brought together leaders, advocates, and community members passionate about fostering inclusive environments, and we were thrilled to contribute to this transformative experience.
Navigating Relationships: Empowering the DD Community
Jenna Brink and Heather Steele, alongside advocate Eddie Plourde, led a 20-minute presentation titled "Navigating Relationships: Empowering the DD Community with Tools for Healthy Relationships." The session highlighted key strategies for building and maintaining healthy relationships within the developmental disabilities (DD) community. Following the presentation, a roundtable discussion allowed attendees to ask questions, share their experiences, and provide valuable insights. This data will help shape our upcoming focus group sessions and curriculum development.
Our Foray Table Was a Hit!
In addition to the presentation, our table in the event foray was a popular stop for attendees. We handed out pronoun buttons, which were enthusiastically received, giving individuals a way to proudly display their identities. The positive response was overwhelming and further emphasized the importance of fostering a space where every voice is heard and respected.
Focus Group Interest Is Growing
We’re excited to report that the event sparked interest in our focus groups for the Boundaries & Beyond curriculum. We're eager to engage more volunteers who want to help shape this essential educational tool, and we encourage anyone interested to get involved.
What’s Next: October E-Blast Updates
As we move forward, we’ll be launching an e-blast in October to provide updates on the curriculum's development and other exciting news. Stay tuned for more details on how you can support and participate in this important work.
Thank you to everyone who stopped by, attended our session, and showed interest in our focus group. Your participation is invaluable as we continue to create a more inclusive and empowering environment for individuals with I/DDs.
